Acupuncture is performed with very thin, sterile stainless steel needles. The needles very gently stimulate points along the meridians to stimulate nerves to increase the body's endorphins (the body's own natural pain relievers). These serve to increase blood circulation, relieve muscle spasms, aid in enhancing the immune system and stimulate nerves.
Yes, acupuncture is very safe. Side effects or any complications are extremely rare. The needle insertion is virtually painless for most animals.
Acupuncture can treat a variety of conditions including, but not limited to, arthritis, ligament damage, sprains, intervertebral disk issues, respiratory conditions, pain management and gastrointestinal issues. Almost every condition can benefit from acupuncture.
The first appointment is typically one hour long. Follow up treatments are generally 30-40 minutes.
The number of treatments depends on the nature and duration of the problem. In acute cases sometimes only 1 or 2 treatments are needed. Chronic conditions generally require a series of 3 to 4 treatments, once weekly and typically tapered to once monthly for maintenance.
No. Acupuncture will not interfere with any treatment your animal is currently receiving. Acupuncture, as well as laser therapy will not conflict with any current medication or treatment your pet may already be receiving.
